Teaching Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine: Description of a Model Program

Details:  A model program in evidence-based integrative medical education and clinical training used at the Integrative Medicine Center at Griffin Hospital, a teaching facility affiliated with Yale University, is introduced.  Presented by Dr. Jui, the first Canadian resident of the innovative program, main features of the model including Evidence Hierarchy and Consensus-Based Decision Making are highlighted.  Designed for researchers, healthcare professionals, policy makers, and students, this presentation is part of the Conference program accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for CME credits.

Details:  Recent surveys show that 20-30% of adults report having significant fatigue at any given time and an estimated 10% of all adults suffer depression in any given year.  The duration and the underlying causes of these symptoms vary from person to person and therefore require different treatment approaches.  Going beyond conventional pharmacotherapy, Dr. Jui will present various science-based natural treatment options for chronic fatigue and depression based on the application of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine.

Reducing Stress at Home and Work: An Introduction to Mind/Body Medicine

Details:  According to the Mind/Body Medical Institute, between 60-90% of healthcare visits are related to stress-induced conditions.  In order to address the fundamental cause and to prevent these conditions, it is important to embrace stress-reduction strategies into our daily lives.  Based on the Stress Reduction Program at Griffin Hospital and interventions used at the Mind/Body Medical Institute in New England, Dr. Jui will facilitate this informative and practical seminar on relatively easy-to-do and yet profoundly effective stress-reduction techniques.  Participants will learn to elicit the Relaxation Response, gain insights into Cognitive Restructuring, and experience first-hand Mindfulness Meditation among other evidence-based mind/body techniques.
